Healthy Together Projects: Programs Healthy Together Projects in Your Community
Each one of Healthy Together’s initiatives is supported by professionals and volunteers from our taskforces. The current programs are:

Envisioning the Healthy Village

A series of inter-related projects designed to promote healthy lifestyle choices to school children and their families in an at-risk, West Tampa neighborhood. This is a multi-year program.

Urban Walking for Wellness

A two-year program designed to encourage downtown walking by developing attractive routes, promoting the individual and business benefits, and advocating for a conducive environment.

Extending the Smoke-free Environment

An on-going program that advocates for smoke-free work campuses and public spaces and offers employers and government solutions and benefits for creating this reality.

Prime Time Sister Circles

Healthy Together has brought a program developed by Drs. Marilyn Gatson and Gayle Porter to enable women, especially African American women in mid-life (40-70), to improve their emotional, physical and spiritual health through lifestyle changes and peer leadership development.

As a new Healthy Together program, the Prime Time Sisters Circle (PTSC) began this summer in Tampa with a Community Launch on August 21 at Blake High School for African American women who wanted to sign up for the PTSC. .

Dr. Marilyn Gaston
Former Assistant Surgeon General under Bill Clinton, and Director, Bureau of Primary Health Care of the US Public Health Service.

Dr. Gayle Porter
Nationally-acclaimed clinical physchologist.

In today’s society, treatment is the norm. But if we addressed health challenges through prevention, we could provide a fuller life for all at much less cost. As an example, African American women are dying at rates that are greater than any other group of women in the United States -- and most of these deaths are preventable. That fact inspired Marilyn Gaston and Gayle Porter, to write Prime Time: The African American Woman's Complete Guide to Midlife Health and Wellness.

Through this program, local women will be developed as neighborhood leaders to guide their neighbors to healthy living choices.

You can help build these neighborhood leaders, either as a program sponsor or as a scholarship sponsor.
